YOU’RE NOT ON YOUR OWN

helpline tv Alzheimer Scotland

No-one should feel that they have to cope with dementia on their own.

That’s Alzheimer Scotland’s belief for 2010. Whether it’s someone with a diagnosis of dementia, a carer, a family member or anyone who’s life has been affected by the illness – we don’t want them to feel alone. We have services at over 60 sites, run a 24 hour freephone Dementia Helpline and have a brand new network of Dementia Advisors operating across Scotland.

Dementia is something that a lot of people don’t like to talk about. We understand that: it’s a frightening illness and most people don’t like talking about the things that scare them. Sometimes, though, we need to talk about the things that scare us, because that’s the only way we canstart to deal with them. There are 71,000 people with dementia in Scotland and hundreds of thousands of others who love and care for them. We need to talk about dementia – Scotland needs to talk about dementia – if these people are to get the help and support they desperately need.

Maybe you don’t know who to talk to about it. Our 24 hour, freephone Dementia Helpline (0808 8083000) is available 365 days a year. It is staffed entirely by highly-trained volunteers who give their time to make sure that information and support is available to people who need it, whenever they need it. If you want to talk to someone about dementia, please call us. Our helpline can put you in touch with local services and tell you about other forms of support available. Our helpline volunteers can also be there just to listen, when you need someone to talk to about trying to cope with dementia.

We also have lots of information on our website, at www.alzscot.org.

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s leading dementia charity and we rely greatly on the many volunteers and fundraisers who donate their time, skills, money and passion to helping us to help others. If you would like to support us in our work, please do get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
