Sophie Thornhill (ENG)/pilot Helen Scott (ENG) won the women’s para track cycling sprint B tandem at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Aileen McGlynn (SCO)/pilot Louise Haston (SCO) took silver (Scotland’s first medal of the games) and Brandie O’Connor (AUS)/pilot Breanna Hargrave (AUS) took the bronze.

“We had really good preparation. We’ve only been together three months, but we were together for four months before and it has just fallen into place.”

On para-cycling being in the Commonwealth Games for the first time:
“This is a good time for para-cycling. Now we’ve put on a good show perhaps it can feature in future Games.”

On winning on Scottish soil:
“I’m not gonna lie, it feels really good. But it feels like a home Games.”

On missing gold:

“We were aiming for a podium spot, but after we qualified for the final we definitely wanted to take gold. We are satisfied with silver for now but we have to raise the bar and go for gold in our next event.”
