‘One Stop’ Treatment for Devon Parkinson’s
A combined service has been created in Devon to provide care and support for people with Parkinson’s disease.
The group, Healthcare for People with Parkinson’s, has relocated a number of services to the Mount Gould Local Care Centre in Plymouth. Two specialist consultants, two nurses and a team of therapists will work at the centre.
It is hoped the new service will provide a ‘more co-ordinated approach for assessment and provision of care’, and run alongside services provided by Plymouth NHS Trust.

New Signpost Website Helps Disabled People

MySignpost's Ian Todd and wheelchair user Steve Wilkinson try out the website.
A new internet-based information exchange, launched in November, is helping disabled people find products and services to boost their independence.
MySignpost.co.uk is a user-friendly ‘community hub’ where people with physical impairments and mental health issues, and their carers, can locate what they need to promote their independence and involvement in the community.
MySignpost was set up in Newcastle to help ‘personalise’ social care by giving people the freedom to manage their own support using Personal Budgets. The project is the brainchild of occupational therapist Bob Dennis and was set up with the help of north-east businessmen Malcolm Sanderson and Ian Todd.
“MySignpost is a catalyst for change in the community and one of the first projects of its kind in the UK,” said Bob at its launch. “It is designed to encourage disabled people, carers and their families to make informed decisions on the type of support they need for independent living.” (more…)
