My local day centre provides a crucial service for the disabled and their carers – which is why I’m fighting to keep it going Riven Vincent’s pleas to David Cameron struck a chord with me for two reasons: my own caring responsibilities, and the disabled adults with elderly carers whose stories are equally heartbreaking, yet rarely told. National charities including Scope and Mencap argue that the money is vital to maintaining many disabled people’s quality of life. A spokesperson for Mencap explained: “Removing this benefit will result in people finding it harder to access these meaningful activities, essentially stripping them of control over their lives and leaving them stuck in their residential care homes.” (more…)
