At Midland Heart, we believe that everyone should have the same opportunity to a fulfilling work life, and that no one should feel unable to meet their potential, simply because they have a disability or health condition.

We expect a lot from our people, but in return, you can be assured of a great place to work, where you will be well rewarded and where great people can succeed. Whether you want to build your career with us, or use your experience to move on, we’re here to develop your potential.

With over 35,000 properties, we’re a well-established housing organisation in the Midlands working together to give more people an affordable place to call home. We’re one team working together for our tenants.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader, for our commitment to ensuring there are no barriers that might prevent disabled people from accessing employment.

We’re proud to be a Disability Confident Leader

An inclusive recruitment process – We’ve worked closely with Liberty, our Disability Network, to understand ways we can improve our recruitment process. This has included:

  • Promoting our Disability Confident Leadership status on our website and job adverts
  • Encouraging potential candidates to contact us about reasonable adjustments.
  • Minimising essential criteria to what is really essential.
  • Making our website accessible.
  • Taking part in the guaranteed interview scheme
  • Making sure our assessments rely less on interviews and more on practical work-based exercises that demonstrate the skills a candidate has.

Inclusion learning framework – Everyone at Midland Heart takes part in both classroom inclusion learning and completes a number of bespoke, accessible inclusion e-learning modules, including disability inclusion e-learning, which has been shaped by and features colleagues from Liberty, our Disability Network. Based on personal experiences the module helps to raise awareness of the wide range of impairments and health conditions that disabled colleagues may experience, the importance of reasonable adjustments and impact of microaggressions..

Support with offering reasonable adjustments – We have a dedicated Wellbeing Lead, as well as in-house DSE assessors, who can support colleagues with any adjustments needed. We provide guidance around reasonable adjustments and are about to launch ‘My Adjustment Pass’ which will help make sure colleagues continue to receive consistent support as they change roles or line mangers.

Inclusion Networks – Our four inclusion Networks help our organisation to support inclusion every day and are made up of colleagues who are passionate about creating a strong sense of belonging. Our Disability Network, Liberty, actively promotes and support disability inclusion.
