Cheese Room Cottage – so named because it was converted in early 2016 from the original brick building which was used for the making and storing of cheese when it was part of our dairy farm – is found down a private lane just off the road running through the hamlet of Marchamley. The historic village of Hodnet is a mile down the road, with the medieval county town of Shrewsbury just 14 miles to the south-west. We are also only ten miles from the Welsh border!

The self-catering cottage is all level on the ground floor with no steps and with extra wide doors throughout. The ground floor comprises a large open-plan living room with kitchen and dining area, a wet room, and double bedroom with built-in furniture allowing plenty of floor space for the wheelchair user. There is a small single bedroom on the first floor for use by an unrelated carer accompanying a disabled person or elderly couple or for a third family member. We are happy to accept one or two well-behaved pets as we appreciate that many visitors like to holiday with their pets. (We regret that smoking or the use of candles is not permitted in the cottage.)

Without exception, all the guests who have stayed in the cottage since we opened in April 2016 have been enchanted by the beauty of this area of Shropshire and have found so many activities to do and places to visit. Do come and explore our glorious countryside – we’re sure you will fall in love with this hidden gem of England!

“There’s something for everyone in Shropshire – if you have never visited before, prepare to be enchanted!”

The idea for the cottage sprung from a conversation between the cottage owners and their brother-in-law who is paraplegic. Dave had commented on how difficult it was to find holiday accommodation to suit his needs, including where he could take his pet dog. He advised during the design process and he and his wife were the first guests. Dave made sure that everything was suitable and accessible.

The cottage has its own paved yard surrounded by a wooden fence, with parking by the front door or adjacent to the cottage. The ground floor is
all on one level and there is a single bedroom upstairs for a companion/carer. The main bedroom can be arranged with two single electric profiling beds or a super-king size and if required, a hoist can be hired.

The wetroom has a comfort height toilet and support rails for right or left transfer, plus a wall-mounted shower chair. The large living room includes a dining area plus a low-height kitchen worktop with access below the
sink and hob. For relaxing, there is a two-seater sofa and a dual motor rise and recliner chair.

North Shropshire has much to offer and Cheese Room Cottage is situated just 10 miles from the Welsh border and 14 miles north of the county town of Shrewsbury. There’s the World Heritage site at Ironbridge, a scattering of National Trust properties in easy travelling distance, the beautiful meres
north of Whitchurch and many small market towns with individual shops and cafés to explore.

Minimum of three nights booking with a week’s stay ranging from £350 to £550.
