With summer in full swing, disabled motorists and their families can make the most of the good weather with the Motability Scheme’s top tips on summer driving.
Plan ahead: Smartphones make it easier than ever to check up-to-date travel conditions before setting off. Sign up to receive the RAC traffic alerts or check online traffic reports to ensure you’re travelling the quickest – and safest – route.
Avoid getting ‘hangry’: You can never predict travel conditions so be sure to pack plenty of snacks and bottles of water to keep you and your family hydrated and energised.
Stay connected: Always travel with a fully-charged mobile phone and, if you also use your phone as a sat nav device, consider investing in an in-car battery charger so that you’re still able to contact the RAC in case of breakdown.
Beware the summer glare: Combat this by keeping a pair of sunglasses handy and using the car’s sun visor.
Share the road: Good weather tends to encourage more cyclists and motorbike riders to take to the road. Stay extra vigilant when using mirrors and leave extra room for these more vulnerable road users.
Be cautious of summer showers: In the summer it’s especially important to take extra care during sudden downpours, when oil and dirt are brought to the surface in the first 10 minutes of rain before being washed away.
Keep cool: Where possible, park in the shade or use a sun shield to help keep car temperatures down. Internal temperatures can quickly rise to double the outside temperature so never leave children or animals unattended in a parked car.
With vehicle servicing and maintenance, tyre, window and windscreen replacement plus full RAC breakdown cover all included in the lease, the Motability Scheme ensures customers can enjoy worry-free motoring all year round.
