The flagship two-day event taking place at the NEC in Birmingham on Friday 28 – Saturday 29 June 2019, offers the UK’s largest display of cars, wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs), scooters, and powered wheelchairs for disabled people.
Over the past decade these informative events have helped over 120,000 disabled motorists find out about leasing a car, WAV, scooter or powered wheelchair through the Motability Scheme’s worry-free leasing package.
At The Big Event this summer, more than 100 cars from 26 manufacturers including Ford, Volkswagen, Nissan and Volvo will be displaying their affordable selection of vehicles, including low emission cars, automatics, and popular cross-over models.
More than 50 scooters and powered wheelchairs, as well as over 45 adapted cars and WAVs will be showcased by a wide range of suppliers over the two days. There will be helpful Motability Scheme advisors on hand to answer questions about the Scheme, as well as representatives from the Scheme partners; RAC, RSA, and Kwik Fit. Information will also be available from Disabled Motoring UK and Driving Mobility.
Due to popular demand, the expert speaker sessions are returning this year; covering a range of topics from how the Motability Scheme works, to the latest adaptations available on the Scheme. This year, guest speaker, Helen Dolphin will be presenting and answering questions regarding Blue Badge applications and parking.
At The Big Event you can also test drive a range of both adapted and standard production cars. First time WAV users will have the chance to experience what it’s like to travel as a passenger while remaining in their wheelchair. New to The Big Event this year is an indoor scooter test drive area, which will provide an opportunity to try selected products on a specifically designed circuit.
The WAV experiences, and all test drives, can be booked at the event by visiting the test drive area and will be available on a first come, first served basis.
All visitors receive a free tea, coffee or soft drink. Children can meet the Scheme mascot, Billy the Bear, who is always happy to take selfies. There will also be free face painting, a play area, cafés, plenty of seating, and accessible toilet facilities. Ear defenders are available at all of the events, and sensory quiet spaces can be found at each venue.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it to The Big Event, there is a programme of One Big Day events that are all free to attend, with free parking too. They offer guests and their families a great way to find out everything they need to know about the Motability Scheme.
