Rosemarie and Neil Sanderson were looking for a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) where they could travel together, side by side.
Quick communication with Neil was critical in case Rosemarie had a choking episode and needed assistance. Plus, when travelling, Rosemarie needs to transport a spare manual wheelchair and equipment, including patient turners, a commode and a mattress – so a decent sized boot is also a must.
The couple found the perfect solution with the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect from Sirus. Designed for comfort and accessibility, the vehicle allows Rosemarie to sit beside Neil as an upfront passenger, giving her a newfound sense of freedom. The conversion is designed with side entry, meaning the couple can use the standard Ford boot and rear seats for all their equipment and luggage. Rosemarie can easily get in and out without unpacking the car, which would be the challenge with a rear entry WAV.
“There’s nothing stopping Rosemarie’s independence with our new WAV, which is brilliant,” says Neil. “Being able to travel upfront in her wheelchair has been lifechanging. Without it, travelling wouldn’t have been possible.”
In addition to its accessibility benefits, the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect also impresses with its performance. Featuring a 1.5-litre petrol engine and automatic gearbox, Neil praises its smooth motorway drive and fuel effi ciency, achieving almost 50mpg.
For Rosemarie and Neil, their Sirus WAV has transformed daily life, offering both peace of mind and the freedom to travel together without limitations.
