Tomorrow marks the 21st annual ‘International Day of People with Disabilities’ the United Nations’ and to celebrate we’ve compiled some of the fantastic events that are going on both tomorrow and next week.
Disability North in partnership with Sage Gateshead, is delighted to announce there will be an evening of performances by disabled people and inclusive groups from around the region featuring song, dance, music, drama and film on the evening of the 3rd December 2013.

Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People are inviting you to an event launching the Manchester Disabled People’s Project and celebrating Disability History Month. It will take place on Monday 9 December, 1.30 – 4.00pm, at the Windrush Millennium Centre, 70 Alexandra Road, Moss Side, M16 7DW.
The afternoon will include a brief overview of the history of Independent Living, an outline of GMCDP’s work, and a description of the Manchester Disabled People’s Project. Register to attend here.

Our friends at the English Federation of Disability Sport are hosting a free Disability Tennis Festival at Nottingham Tennis Centre to celebrate International Day for Disabled People and encouraging you to try a version of tennis which suits you. The Tennis Foundation are also offering free Disability Inclusion Training and a session for schools. Register to attend by clicking here.

Haringey Disability First Consortium (HDFC) hosts their annual event at Bruce Castle Museum. They will be joined by Jackson’s Lane theatre group who will be leading workshops to explore theatrical ways to ‘open doors’ and ‘break barriers’.
The Islington Personal Budgets Network are hosting a free event to mark this year’s International Day of Disabled People. They will be using this year’s theme of “Break barriers, open door: for an inclusive society for all”. There will be music, dance, interactive games, information stalls and raffles with lots of prizes. It is taking place at the Assembly Hall, Islington Town Hall, Upper Street, London, N1 2UD. Capability Scotland is asking the public to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities by donating unwanted clothes, books, toys and bric-a-brac to their local Capability Scotland shop.
Disability Wales are organising two events in Cardiff Bay to mark the day. There will be presentations on Disability and Tackling Poverty. There will also be a presentation by the Scottish Government and third sector on Equality, Inclusion and Independent Living in Scotland.
