CEO, Nigel Brice talks with Able Magazine about keeping Gowrings Mobility customer options fresh for 2020.

What plans have Gowrings Mobility got for 2020?
Following the acquisition of O&H Mobility last year we will shortly be launching our all new Renault Master, short, medium and long wheel base WAV. We have recently added automatic transmission Vauxhall Combo and Renault Trafic to the Gowrings line-up and towards the end of 2020 we will be launching our all new series 5 VW Caddy Maxi.

During March 2020 we will also be opening an additional facility near Doncaster to enable us to provide a nationwide new and used sales, aftercare and hire facility.

What are the most challenging questions put to you by customers?
Generally, we feel it’s not about challenging questions but about listening to our customers and establishing their requirements then proposing the right vehicles to demonstrate. With our free, no obligation demonstration service our customers can try our conversions without feeling any pressure to buy. One of our customers wanted to drive to the local supermarket to check they could park easily. They then popped in and did some shopping!

Gowrings Mobility are strong in the used and hire marketplaces. Why don’t more customers consider these options?
Without doubt the Motability Scheme in conjunction with its approved WAV suppliers’ offer a service which is unrivalled across the world. That said, the Motability Scheme is not appropriate for everyone and so for a number of our customers, purchasing a fully refurbished approved used vehicle from Gowrings Mobility provides piece of mind and value for money.

Gowrings looks to re-purchase all of the new vehicles that it builds in order to meet the demand for its approved used vehicles and provides a hassle free part exchange to customers that want a new vehicle.

One of the big challenges around hire is that many people are just not aware that this service exists. It is a great option for people considering a WAV, it enables them to try before they buy so that they are sure it is the right vehicle for them.

Many of our customers, such as care homes hire to top up their vehicle numbers at peak times, such as summer or Christmas. This provides flexibility at a lower cost enabling them to increase their fleet as need demands.

Hire is also a popular solution for families wishing to go on holidays or trips. By hiring a WAV all of the family can travel together.

Where will customers find differences between Gowrings Mobility and your competitors?
Our vehicles are designed with the wheelchair passenger in mind, we try, wherever possible, to create the wheelchair space centrally within the vehicle to enable inclusion with other travellers.

Our experience of over 50 years means we take a consultative approach with our customers. Our free no obligation demonstration team are experienced, knowledgeable and when they take vehicles to our customers, they will provide an honest evaluation of the vehicle suitability to ensure customers’ needs are fully satisfied.

We get some lovely customer feedback about our demonstration drivers.

Putting out vehicles in all market segments: small, medium and large must be a huge challenge. Do you ever consider consolidation and becoming specialist in just one or two vehicle types?
We do offer WAVs to a number of sectors across the full size range. WAVs are our specialism and as such, our engineers, production and all areas of Gowrings Mobility work to be specialist in providing wheelchair accessible vehicles.

To achieve this our focus is always on listening to our customers so that all new vehicle developments are customer needs led.
