Cold winter weather is no fun if you’re living with a disability, or caring for those who do. Vulnerability to the cold combined with ever-increasing energy bills means keeping warm and well can be a serious issue – but this year, there’s some good news.

The Government has announced a new funding scheme which will help those who receive disability benefits to make their homes warmer and more comfortable to live in, by improving energy efficiency. It’s called ECO3, or Energy Company Obligation version 3 and it’s aimed at the people who need it most: single parents, jobseekers, people living with disabilities, their carers, those receiving benefits from the MOD and anyone who’s struggling to pay their energy bills*.

Reduce bills

Through the Scheme, eligible households can reduce the amount of energy their homes need by having simple things like cavity wall or loft insulation professionally installed, or in some cases, having a more efficient heating system fitted. A properly insulated home could reduce your energy bills by up to £465 a year**.
