Three Mazda2 models are available on Motability; a manual model with Homura trim and two from the sportier Homura Aka trim – one manual and one automatic.
The black honeycomb front grille with red accent sets the style agenda for what is designed to be a supermini with a practical edge. While it’s compact and agile, it’s also comfortable and airy and performs equally well around town or on the longer fast roads.
All Mazda2 models offer a smooth drive, though the automatic Homura Aka features a drive selection switch that when ‘Sport’ mode is engaged, will enhance response from the accelerator.
Infotainment runs through a well-positioned 8” screen. Mazda Connect brings together DAB radio with six speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto that enable access to certain features of your phone, while integrated Bluetooth allows audio transfer from Bluetooth devices, hands-free calling and easy access to phone contacts via steering wheel controls, handy tactile Multimedia Commander or voice commands. It also includes a European wide navigation system that comes with three years free map updates. Additionally, there is an AUX input and two USB inputs.
Simple features, such as electrically adjustable, heated, auto power-folding door mirrors and engine start/stop button are useful, whereas others help the driver and passengers find a comfortable position, such as manual slide, recline and height adjustable driver and passenger seats. The handbrake, gear shift and tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel are leather wrapped and climate-control air conditioning, and Hill Launch Assist are also standard features. (The steering wheel and the front seats with three-stage setting, are heated on the Homura Aka trim.)
Other features available on the Homura Aka include: rear side and rear privacy glass, smart keyless entry that allows for opening and locking the vehicle without removing the key from your pocket or bag and paddle shifts, for automatic transmission, that will be welcomed by disabled drivers familiar with hand controls.
A variety of safety features, starting with simple auto-dimming rear-view mirror and dusk-sensing headlights, through to proactive systems such as autonomous emergency braking, and pre-crash safety advanced Smart City Brake Support combine to give holistic coverage.
Rear parking sensors, reversing camera, ABS, dynamic stability control, lane-keep assist with lane departure warning system, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system and emergency stop signalling are also all standard features.
Additionally, the G-Vectoring Control Plus system provides better handling and control for a smoother ride, as well as aiding in emergency avoidance manoeuvres.
Cargo volume in five-seat mode to belt line and including underfloor storage is 255 litres, though rear seats fold down in a 60:40 configuration, allowing for 887 litres in two-seat mode.
