Artist and Designer with a disability Mike Monize had a lot on his plate when he decided to venture into his journey. Although it’s been 16 years since his Spinal Cord Injury, he still hasn’t accepted or found inner peace with it. He was struggling both physically and mentally and actually getting to a point where he just felt like giving up. With so many changes happening at the time, along with it came a great deal of uncertainty, anxiety, fear and anger but also hope!
Mike embarked on a Pop Up tour called Never Give Up promoting his art, poetry and music. While on tour he realized almost immediately how difficult travel was for people with disabilities.
“At almost every stop we had some challenge or obstacle to get over with regard to our accommodations. We found that no matter what plans we made, or how well we tried, there was always some issue. From standard non-compliance or businesses doing the bare minimum, the overall experience of our stay, with a few exceptions, was a lot of work.”
The challenges faced on tour ultimately sparked AXS World, an online global accessibility platform documenting Mike’s travel and accessibility while on tour.
