The two-week countdown to the first ever Facebook edition of a Motability Scheme One Big Day has begun. On Thursday 10 September an online version of the popular event will take place, offering disabled people and their families access to online content all about the car, powered wheelchair and scooter scheme, from the safety and comfort of their own home.

The new Facebook-hosted One Big Day will ensure that advice, information and inspiration is easily available. Facebook fans can look forward to finding out all they need to know about the Scheme with Q&A sessions from experts on topics such as adaptations and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles, enjoy tours of virtual showrooms, and even enter competitions. There’ll be fun too, with Motability Scheme mascot Billy the Bear making special digital appearances.

All nationwide One Big Day events were cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and throughout this challenging period the Motability Scheme has been working in a variety of ways to continue to support customers. As well as boosting the amount of content and advice available online, this has included new measures that take into account the impact of the virus outbreak on day-to-day lives.

A six-month car lease extension was automatically applied when lockdown measures were introduced, and every customer received an insurance-based refund of £50. Any customer experiencing temporary financial need is also able to access an advance of the £600 Good Condition Bonus usually paid at the end of a lease. As many dealerships are now open, Motability Scheme customers can also access helpful and reassuring information, including a video explaining what they can expect when visiting a dealership, online at

Louise Vranic, One Big Day event organiser at Motability Operations, explains:

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we’ve been continuing to support our customers, despite some of our operations having to initially pause. Both customers and those interested in the Motability Scheme have been particularly active on our Facebook page and we’ve increased the content to match. We’re excited to bring together our online community on Thursday 10 September with a dedicated Facebook version of a One Big Day to replace the popular nationwide events we are sadly unable to host. Facebook fans can find out how they  can access the Scheme in a new COVID-secure way, understand how we are supporting our customers, and of course have some fun throughout the day.”

From 9am to 4pm on Thursday 10 September there will be content published in time slots so that new and existing customers, and their families, can be online for the information they would like to know, as well as learn from the experiences of other customers and their families.
