Residents at Weedon Road Supported Living scoop Housing Solutions’ Best Kept Garden Award

Tenants and members of the team at Weedon Road Supported Living in Aylesbury demonstrated their green-fingered talent by winning the Best Kept Garden Award in Housing Solutions’ debut Supported Housing gardening competition.

Aylesbury Supported Living is run by local learning disability service and charity, The Fremantle Trust.

With some keen gardeners among the tenants at Weedon Road, the team put forward the garden as a submission in the competition after investing a great deal of work to get it looking its best.

The ‘makeover’ of the garden area began in spring with  landscaping work to allow for the creation of raised beds, then a full range of seeds were chosen and planted. New lights were installed and the shed benefitted from a fresh lick of paint.

Commenting on the award, Service Manager, Craig Summers said: “We are thrilled to have received the trophy from social landlord Housing Solutions. Nurturing the garden has been a full team effort and everyone has been willing to put time and hard work in to keep it looking good, from planting and painting to regular mowing and picking up fallen apples.”

Jill Caress, the Director of Business Development at Housing Solutions, said:

We are delighted to see how much our Supported Housing customers love their gardens, demonstrated by the work they and their support workers have put into making this a very special place.”

It is hoped that the competition will become an annual event based on the success of this year’s debut.
