Calvert Trust Exmoor and Isca Barum Insurance Brokers launched their inaugural Spooky Cycle event on Thursday, promising a fun-filled night ride along the Tarka Trail on Hallowe’en weekend this year.
Co-sponsored by the Big Lottery Fund and in partnership with Devon County Council and Barnstaple Rugby Club, the Spooky Cycle will take place on the evening of Saturday 27th October and is open to all levels of cyclists, with families and company teams encouraged to ride together.
The charity cycle will start and finish from Barnstaple Rugby Club, heading along the Tarka Trail on a choice of two routes: route one heads south to Puffing Billy in Great Torrington and back, and is 30 miles in total; route two heads north towards Chivenor and back and is nine miles in total.
Fancy dress is encouraged and there will be prizes for the best costumes in each category and best decorated ‘lids’. Helmets are compulsory on the night and all bikes must also have lights (and, yes – there is a prize for best lights, too!)
In line with Calvert Trust Exmoor’s ethos, the Spooky Cycle is very much geared to all ages and abilities, and open to families, company teams and individuals, including those with disabilities. And even if you decide not to ride but just want to come along and support, there will be plenty of fun to be had at the Rugby Club itself on the night – a great alternative to taking the kids trick-or-treating.
“This is our first venture into a public event of this size in North Devon,” Community Fundraiser Jane Byrne explained, “and we have received tremendous support from everyone we have talked to.
“Anyone can enter, dress up for Halloween, and enjoy this family event whilst simultaneously helping to raise important funds for Calvert Trust Exmoor.”
Sarah Page, Key Client Director at Isca Barum said at the launch: “To help celebrate Isca Barum’s fourth year in Barnstaple we have chosen to support Calvert Trust Exmoor as our charity for 2018. Our ethos is about providing a personal, caring service, and we are great believers in the wonderful work Calvert Trust Exmoor does to support people with a wide range of disabilities. We are so pleased to be a part of this exciting night ride event and look forward to helping the charity make it a huge success.”
