The NEC, Birmingham hosts the UK’s largest display of vehicles for disabled people.

This summer, The Big Event arrives in Birmingham for the first time ever, offering disabled motorists and their families the chance to discover worry-free motoring with the Motability Scheme. The country’s largest display of vehicles for disabled people will set up home at the NEC on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 July 2018.

Free to attend and with free parking for all visitors, it is the Motability Scheme’s flagship event among its programme of events throughout the UK this summer.

Visitors to The Big Event will have the chance to get behind the wheel alongside a professional driving instructor and test drive a range of vehicles, including a wide selection fitted with popular driving adaptations. Guests can book a test drive on the day by presenting their full driving licence to the test drive team. For the first time, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) passenger taster experiences will also be available allowing customers to gain real-life experience of travelling as a passenger in a WAV.

The Big Event will showcase over 100 cars from leading manufacturers including Ford, Vauxhall, Hyundai, and more. Plus, there will be a number of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles on display plus a range of vehicle adaptations and scooters. Motability Scheme advisors will be on hand throughout the event providing advice and useful information about the Scheme.

An event for the whole family to enjoy, The Big Event has plenty of free activities to entertain the younger guests including balloon modelling, a bouncy castle, face painting and of course the chance to say hello to the Motability Scheme mascot, Billy the Bear. Plus, on arrival you’ll be treated to a token for a free cup of tea or coffee.

Alison Beasley, event manager, said:

“We are excited to be bringing The Big Event to Birmingham for the first time. Our flagship event of the summer, it’s a fun-packed two days where disabled people and their families can find out all they need to know about the Motability Scheme – and even take to the road on a test drive – all under one roof.”

The Scheme is available to anyone who receives the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement or the Armed Forces Independence Payment. Customers transfer their mobility allowance to Motability Operations Ltd to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair.

When leasing a Motability Scheme car, insurance for two named drivers, servicing and maintenance, full RAC breakdown assistance, tyre and windscreen replacement and 60,000 mileage allowance over three years are all included in the cost of the lease. A range of popular car adaptations are also available at no additional cost.

When leasing a scooter or powered wheelchair, insurance, breakdown assistance, servicing, maintenance and repairs and tyre and battery replacement are all included in the cost of the lease. Pricing is standard nationwide.

A wide range of ‘green’ vehicles with emissions of 100g of CO2 per km or less are available through the Scheme.
