The new RAV4 is presented as the SUV you really can use anywhere. For one thing it fronts up on urban style rather than the agricultural ruggedness of some of its rivals and secondly, it’s packed with technology largely focused on a smooth and comfortable ride – although it would clearly work in more remote settings as well.

All four trim levels are available on Motability; all with petrol hybrid engines and automatic transmission – and due to a lowered weight and centre of gravity – you’ll find it full of beans and of course, with low emission figures.

The interior is well laid out and as a result of its height provides great all-round visibility for the driver as well as a comfortable seating position for all. The entry-level Icon trim is well kitted out with an 8” touchscreen with the Toyota Touch 2 media system with six speakers, DAB and Bluetooth as well as reversing camera and rear parking sensors. (From the Design trim upwards you’ll also get the Go Navigation system and voice recognition.)

The Icon is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense kit that includes pre-collision with cyclist detection, night-time pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control – to which you can add front parking sensors (Icon) and blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert with the Excel.

Extra features included in the Excel trim are largely based on comfort and convenience, such as a front wiper de-icer, heated seats and steering wheel (it won’t be this warm forever) and power adjustable settings (with memory function) on the driver’s seat – a gift for people that transfer from a wheelchair. The Dynamic model meanwhile is dressed top-to-toe in black gloss exterior and although it doesn’t add anything practical, looks the business.
