saunasmallAs I sat relaxing in enveloping heat, gazing out across Loch Melfort I was struck by the realisation that, due to issues of accessibility, many disabled people will never be in a position to experience the benefits of a sauna, not least a sauna with a such an incredible view.

There are a number of entirely valid reasons why a disabled person wouldn’t consider using a sauna. To start with, most simply aren’t accessible and many are found in Health Clubs which offer nothing justifying a membership fee for disabled people. Couple that with the discomfort of being in a confined space and suddenly using a sauna seems like an infinitely more daunting prospect.

Luckily for those who have never considered a sauna, there are options out there. Where better than the rugged West Coast of Scotland to get your first experience of the incomparably soothing heat of a sauna?

Picture the scene, you’ve had a busy day sampling the delights of Oban, Scotland’s Seafood Capital and seeing your lunch in its natural habitat at the Scottish Sealife Sanctuary before heading back to the idyllic surroundings of Melfort Pier to enjoy a refreshing tipple and your own sauna, accessible only to you, your family and friends.

Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? I enjoyed my time at Melfort Pier so much that I spoke with the owners, John and Etonella, who have kindly offered our readers the opportunity to win a sauna for a week, with the added bonus of a holiday at Melfort Pier.

Melfort Pier are renowned for their accessible accommodation in one of Scotland’s most striking locales. Located just 16 miles South of Oban, Melfort Pier’s 10 Scandinavian-designed houses are all Category 2-STB for Disabled People and have their own private beach.
