WheelPower National Junior Games

September 30, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - October 3, 2019 @ 12:00 pm

WheelPower’s National Junior Games is an annual event held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

The games are a great way for children aged 12-18 with a disability to discover sport in a safe, welcoming and friendly environment and will combine have-a-go sessions with coaching and competitions in a range of different age groups.

Paralympic stars Ade Adepitan, David Weir and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson took part in the National Junior Games on their road to success and thousands of children and young people had achieved sporting success and led a healthy active life as a result of taking part in this extraordinary event.

Event Information:

Who is the event for?

  • The National Junior Games is open to any young person with a physical or mild sensory impairment between the ages of twelve and eighteen.
  • Parents/Guardian’s/Personal Assistants/Teachers may be asked to assist and support their participants at some activities to ensure that they get the best experience possible. They will be required to stay on site throughout the event.
  • We are expecting up to 150 children to attend the event.

Sports and activities:

The National Junior Games are a mixture of have-a-go and friendly competition in a variety of sports. At sports where competition takes place within the programme, staff aim to use an informal classification system where possible however due to the inclusive eligibility and number that attend the event it is difficult to operate a full classification system. Therefore, this may result in a range of abilities within the competitions.

The sports and activities at the event include archery, athletics, basketball, boccia, bowls, cue sports, fencing, golf, handcycling, polybat, powerlifting, rugby, swimming, table games, tennis and zone hockey.

Everyone will be welcomed to take part and the sports and activities will be suitable for you at a level at which you will feel comfortable.

All of our sports coaches are qualified, have DBS checks and have lots of experience of delivering activity to disabled people.

All young people attending can discuss their needs and support with the Event Manager and sport coaches in a safe and private environment before starting an activity.
