disability_rightsDisability Rights UK is the largest UK organisation that is both pan-disability (we serve people whatever type of impairment or health condition they have) and led by disabled people.

It has never been more important to have a strong organisation that stands up for disabled people’s rights and support. We campaign to help assert the rights of disabled people, protect benefits and encourage social change.

Our vision is a society where everyone with lived experience of disability or health conditions can participate equally as full citizens. We are committed to breaking the link between poverty and disability by providing people with information about their rights.

Our other objectives are:

  • To mobilise disabled people’s leadership and control – in our lives, our organisations, and society
  • To achieve independent living in practice
  • To put disability equality and human rights into practice across society
  • We produce user-friendly guides to benefits and publish the Disability Rights Handbook annually. Our website contains a wealth of information about benefit entitlement, with downloadable factsheets, as well as more detailed information for professional welfare rights advisers – including briefings and policy reports on the support needs of disabled people.
  • Our key decisions are made through our members who elect the Board of Trustees: and by our Senior Management Team. We work with our members to influence national policy on independent living, benefits, education, employment, transport, human rights and other issues – shaping policy through direct experience and expertise.  We also work with our local individual and organisation members to empower and to influence local policy and services.
