Travelling upfront in a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) is essential for some passengers. For Rosemarie and Neil Sanderson, the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect conversion from Sirus Mobility, was the perfect solution.

After two strokes and complications from Covid-19, Rosemarie’s mobility declined and she became a wheelchair user. For 20 years she had travelled upfront with Neil, but her deteriorating posture and need for assistance made their previous vehicle unsuitable.

Finding a safe option

Their priority was finding a WAV that allows Rosemarie to sit upfront beside Neil. Many side-entry conversions required upper body strength to transfer into a seat, which wasn’t feasible for her. The Grand Tourneo Connect, however, offered a side-entry solution with a manual ramp and sliding door, enabling easy access and comfortable travel.

“From the first day I travelled in the Grand Tourneo Connect from Sirus Mobility, I knew it was perfect,” says Rosemarie.

The vehicle also provides ample space for equipment which was lacking in other models. “Some WAVs were unsuitable because there wasn’t enough room inside, once we were both seated,” explains Neil.

Previously, Neil had to stop driving to assist Rosemarie if she needed help (such as needing medication). Now, travelling upfront together has eliminated that issue. “This prevents any issues like that from happening” adds Neil.

Available in both new and used models, the Grand Tourneo Connect has transformed their travel experience. “Being able to travel upfront has been life changing for Rosemarie,” Neil concludes.
