Race Across Europe in a Series 5: The ultimate travel competition for powered wheelchair users
Freedom One Life is calling on adventurous powered wheelchair users to get involved in their Race Across Europe.
Race Across Europe is a four day trip with travel costs, accommodation and €500 spending money included, which will see three powerchair users battle for the top spot as they make their way from London to Turin in northern Italy using the company’s innovative Series 5 powerchairs.
Taking place from 4 – 8 August 2025, each of the three racers will follow a different route through Europe using public transport, completing challenges along the way and documenting their travels – all worth points towards a €1,000 prize for first place.
Freedom One Life is founded by a powerchair user who manufactures and sells powerchairs by combining lived experience with industry leading design that allow users to live the life that they choose.
Founder of Freedom One Life, Alex Papanikolaou, said: “We’re really excited to launch this competition, which is the first of its kind. It isn’t about proving how far our Series 5 powerchair can go, instead it’s about showing what’s possible when people have the right equipment to live the life they choose.
Accessible travel still has a long way to go, but it is possible! This race proves that whether you’re disabled or not, adventure, travel, and excitement should be within everyone’s reach.”
Alex has travelled to over 70 countries and understands the challenges of exploring internationally as a powerchair user. That’s why his love of travel directly influenced key features of the Series 5, which include public transport approved dimensions, an onboard charger and 40km real world range.
For many powerchair users travel can feel overwhelming. Concerns about damaged equipment, inaccessible stations, unreliable transport, or simply not knowing what to expect, can all be huge barriers. Race Across Europe is Freedom One Life’s way of proving that the world is open, and that with the right powerchair, planning, and a bit of confidence, nothing is off limits.
How to apply
You don’t need to have any travel experience to apply, just a sense of adventure! Freedom One Life is opening applications up to powerchair users, and you don’t need to be a Series 5 customer to take part – we will provide one for the duration of the competition if you are not already a customer.
Applications are now open and close at 23:59 on Saturday 31 May 2025.
