Julie Childs, from Faringdon has a penchant for crafts and creating beautiful things. She laughs: “I’d rather make creative things than clean my house, you know. That’s what my mum says!”

As life unfolded for Julie, so did a challenge. Her mobility started to decline, prompting her mother to show up with a mobility scooter insisting it was time to make a change. The hoist in the back of Julie’s standard car, which was used to load her scooter, was slowly but surely becoming too difficult to handle. As her mobility continued to decline, Julie decided to explore other options, leading her to attend Motability’s ‘The Big Event’ in May, where she first encountered the possibility of getting an Internal Transfer (IT) wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Julie shares: “I first found Allied Mobility at The Big Event. They just went above and beyond for what I needed. No question was too small, no question was too long.”

Ford Dream™ | The Power of a Seamless Internal Transfer

The Internal Transfer vehicle Julie had set her eyes on was Allied Mobility’s Ford Dream™ and after chatting with her mobility advisor after the event, a free home demonstration was set up. For Julie, Dream™ offered a game-changing feature, the ability to effortlessly drive her scooter into the car followed by a seamless transfer.

She shares: “(The) part of Dream™ that I found was particularly useful was the ability to drive the scooter into the [van] and that I was able to turn the seats on the scooter and then transfer directly into the driver’s seat.”

AlliedGo™ – Range of Drive From WAVs

Dream™ is part of Allied Mobility’s AlliedGo™ line-up, and is engineered to provide ample space, ensuring a secure transfer from your wheelchair to the custom-designed six-way driver or front passenger seat. Converted from the highly regarded Ford Tourneo Custom base vehicle, it boasts not only comfort and elegance but also incorporates cutting-edge entertainment and communication technology.

“Sitting in the Dream™, everything is in front of me. So, I don’t have to twist and turn – everything is just there and it’s easy to drive from.”

Countdown to Delivery

The day of delivery was a milestone for Julie: “He [Julie’s trained delivery driver] brought the car. We sat in the car together. He showed me a couple of features and then he just gave me the keys and said, ‘enjoy driving’.

Julie continues: “And he took my old car away with him. It was like I was going to get my freedom. And I was going to be able to live the next seven years with a vehicle that would suit my needs. It’s made my life much easier.”

Above and Beyond

Julie’s first experience with Allied Mobility was made an easy process. She enthuses: “I would recommend Allied to anyone…the customer service, the home demos, the fact that they’re on the end of the phone if you need them. They’re truly an amazing company to deal with.”

If, like Julie, you’re interested in exploring the range of our wheelchair accessible vehicles at an event and talking to Allied Mobility’s friendly sales team in person, remember, they’re just a call away.
