Special Olympics GB will be at Southgate Shopping Centre in Bath today to promote the 2013 National Summer Games and they’ll be back there again for the next three weeks.

Each week the team will be available to provide information to passing shoppers about the Summer

Games and how people can get involved.

“We want to make sure that the Bath residents don’t miss out on this fabulous sporting event that will be happening right here on their doorstep at the end of August,” said Maeve Chappell, Communications Director for Special Olympics Great Britain.

Almost 1,700 athletes along with 500 coaches and 500 Games volunteers from across England, Scotland and Wales will be descending onto Bath for the three days of competition from 29 – 31 August based at the University of Bath. The Games will be getting a great kick-off with a spectacular Opening Ceremony at the Royal Crescent on the evening of 28 August.

“Everyone is welcome to drop by Southgate Centre tomorrow, Thursday 11 July, to find out more about the Games and if they are feeling particularly energetic they can join us for a game of badminton – the nets will be up,” said Maeve. “We’ll also be taking photographs to start building our #1bigsmile album . We are confident that we will be collecting plenty of smiles over the coming weeks.”
