The CQC’s new four-tier ratings system which sees services rated as outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate was rolled out last October. To help care home owners and managers to better understand the new system, CQC inspectors will be visiting several upcoming Care Roadshow events which offer visitors bite sized seminars and workshops throughout the day as part of the free show.
Robert Tovery, CQC Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the North West will be speaking at the next Care Roadshow which takes place at Bradford’s Cedar Court Hotel on the 12 May. Tovery’s session ‘How Good Are You – Preparing for a Rating Inspection’ will look at how the new inspection process will assess services against the new criteria and offer attendees help and advice for their individual settings.
Following on from the CQC’s seminar, Sonya Ashworth from Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust will be looking at a similar theme for her seminar ‘CQC Inspectors Unannounced Visits’. Ashworth will look at what Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards are essential for compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2010 and CQC requirements. Using examples of good and poor practices, delegates will be asked ‘If you were a CQC Inspector visiting your place of work to assess the standards of IPC, what would you look for?’
The day will also see sessions from the National Care Association’s Chief Executive Sheila Scott looking at the Care Act and how to make it a reality and a Dementia focused session from Maggie Stobbart-Rowlands, Lead Nurse at the Gold Standards Framework Centre. This Dementia seminar will focus on end of life care for people with Dementia, aiming to improve the way people are cared for in the last years of life.
The Leeds event will also host workshops from Nicola Venus-Balgobin from Sense for Deafblind People. These interactive and practical workshops will give participants the knowledge and skills needed to ensure best practice for older people with dual sensory loss, a challenging area for managers and staff.
