The Motability Scheme hosts a world of worry-free motoring this summer.
This summer, the One Big Day events return to four locations across the country, offering disabled motorists and their families the chance to discover worry-free motoring with the Motability Scheme. The extensive display of vehicles for disabled people will set up home in Exeter, Harrogate, Peterborough and Edinburgh following June’s hugely successful flagship event in Birmingham.
Free to attend and with free parking for all visitors, One Big Day is a great place to gain an understanding of the Scheme and the mobility options it offers. The Scheme is available to anyone who receives the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement or the Armed Forces Independence Payment.
Visitors will have the chance to get behind the wheel alongside a professional driving instructor and test drive a range of vehicles, including a wide selection fitted with popular driving adaptations. Each event will showcase over 50 cars from leading manufacturers including Ford, Vauxhall, Hyundai, and more. Guests can book a test drive on the day by presenting their full driving licence at the test drive booking desk.
There will also be a number of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) on display plus a range of vehicle adaptations and scooters. Exclusive to the One Big Day at Peterborough, the Motability Scheme is running a passenger WAV taster experience in a select number of 50 cars. The experience will allow people who have never travelled in a WAV and who are considering one for the very first time, to experience what it’s like alongside a qualified driving instructor.
Motability Scheme advisors will be on hand throughout the event, providing advice and useful information about the Scheme.
Events for the whole family to enjoy One Big Day offers free children’s entertainment such as balloon modelling, a bouncy castle, face painting and of course the chance to say hello to the Motability Scheme mascot, Billy the Bear. Plus, on arrival, all visitors will be treated with a token for a free cup of tea, coffee or a soft drink. Ear defenders are available at all the events, and sensory quiet room spaces can be found at each venue.
