Sustainable Event Management

The Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee is developing environmental management plans for their venues, implementing initiatives to minimise and recycle waste. This work will ensure sustainability is embedded within the procurement process and sustainable transport plans, providing a template for future Games and other major events.

Sport Relief

A joint initiative with Sport Relief supporting some of the most disadvantaged people in Scotland and some of the Commonwealth’s poorest countries. The home element supports young people, older people and women with mental health problems or who suffer neglect or abuse. The ‘away’ element is helping groups and communities in three African countries.

Support a 2nd Team for 2014

Support a 2nd Team provides an opportunity for creating partnerships with countries participating in the Commonwealth Games and supporting them through their journey to the Games and beyond.

Support a 2nd Team is a programme of events to engage the cultures of Commonwealth countries and further develop links with Commonwealth regions. The programme provides an opportunity, as part of the wider Games Legacy, for creating partnerships with countries participating in the Commonwealth Games and supporting them through their journey to the Games and beyond.  Local partners are being encouraged to get behind another Commonwealth country and cheer them on.

A partnership by SportScotland and the Youth Sport Trust to recruit 14-17 year olds to help inspire other young people to take part in sport, and drive opportunity, engagement and change through sport. Mytime Active’s Community Investment Fund

This grant is aimed at supporting local people, clubs and community organisations who want to increase participation in sport and/or physical activity, run events, build capacity, improve access and improve the health prospects of their community.

Active Places Fund

The Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund supports the Scottish Government’s legacy ambitions to encourage more people to be active and take part in sport. Physical activity can help people become healthier and fitter. The Fund will do this by providing funding for capital projects which create or improve places in local communities where people can go to get active. Grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 are available for a very wide range of community-led projects such as new bike or skate parks, outdoor adventure facilities, walking routes, or new projects within school estates. (For projects that require funding of less than £10,000 please apply to Awards for All.) In total, £10 million is available until 2015.
