Laurie Squirrell was regarded as the most promising female motocross rider in Britain. However in 2004 she experienced a spinal cord injury while competing in her first professional Motocross race in San Antonio, Texas. She crashed on a corner during practice and broke her back which left her paralysed from the chest down.

In this short video, Laurie is joined by her childhood friend and British Motorcross rider, Elliott Banks-Browne as they discuss their memories of riding together, their love of speed and dirt tracks.

Laurie recalls the day of her crash and explains why she supports the Wings for Life Foundation and the importance of the cutting edge research that they fund.

This May you too can support spinal cord injury research by taking part in the Wings For Life World Run. This unique global running event takes place in over 35 countries and will be coming to Silverstone Race circuit onMay 3rd. For more information visit: http://www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com
