Sleep is an important aspect of physical and mental wellbeing, yet so many of us struggle to get the rest we need to stay on top form.

Here are our top tips for better sleep…

Habit
Good sleep is a habit. Condition your body to feel tired at bedtime by keeping the timing of going to sleep and rising in the morning, the same.

Temperature
Although it’s not helpful to be cold at night, being too hot is just as bad. Take care not to make your bedroom too stuffy. The sweet spot is likely to be between 18 – 20C.

Caffeine
Caffeine, usually from tea or coffee, is a stimulant. Limit intake during the afternoon and evening to prevent it from keeping you awake.

Screens
Smartphones and televisions give off a bluish light that can supress melatonin, a hormone that helps the brain to relax into sleep.

Darkness
Blocking out the light encourages sleep, just as light in the morning, helps to wake you up.

Food
A heavy meal can cause indigestion or overheating, and will interrupt sleep, especially if accompanied by alcohol.

Stress
Stress can chip away at good sleep. Keep a notebook by your bed to jot down anything you need to deal with in the morning – and then forget it.

Exercise
One of the secondary benefits of exercise is that although you’ll be that bit fitter, you can also expect to feel tired and ready for sleep.

Invest
It may be time to look carefully at your current bedding. A carefully chosen mattress, duvet and pillows can make all the difference.

Stratos Pillow

The Simba Stratos pillow is soft but supportive and features ‘Simba Renew Bio’ material inside a machine washable cotton cover, that is both comfortable and breathable.

Incredibly, the anti-allergenic material is made from recycled plastic bottles but effectively dissipates excess heat to keep you cool, dry – and slumbering.

Simba Hybrid Mattress

You probably don’t realise that you need a new mattress before you get one. It’s worth considering for a moment, especially if you’re waking up feeling in worse shape than you did when you went to bed. Perhaps you’ve been dealing with your current mattress seemingly prodding you in the ribs or being so soft that it fails to provide the support you need.

The Simba hybrid mattress brings together several aids to achieving great sleep. Key among these are the breathable sleep surface and open cell graphite infused Simbatex layer that help maintain the optimum temperature for sleep, which is probably far more important than most people realise.

Although the top layer provides a soft, gentle sensation, while the other layers provide superb support and stability. It seems altogether likely that you’ll find yourself moving less during the night on a Simba hybrid mattress, resulting from the combination of layers, including a ‘no roll-off supportcore’ base.

Our reviewer wasn’t the first to say that the Simba mattress appeared to reduce the severity of their persistent  backache for the first time in many years.

With free next day delivery, 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee, you can see for yourself, without losing sleep over it!
