Australian swimmer Daniel Fox beat out the English and the Welsh to secure the Gold Medal at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre this evening.

Fox was narrowly slower than his own world record time of 1.57.16, clocking in at 1.57.89 almost a full three seconds faster than Englishman Thomas Hamer who snagged the Silver with 2.00.27.

“I am exhausted, I am just really happy. It’s just really amazing. I knew I was going to win. It’s just really great to be training beside such a great bunch of blokes.”

On dedicating his medal:
“I want to dedicate it to my mum, dad, step-dad, coach and of course Australia.”

On winning bronze:
“I didn’t really expect to win a medal so I am really happy.”

On his tactics:
To keep up with the Australian (gold medallist Daniel Fox, AUS) was my plan until the third 50m, and then bring it (the medal) home.
