We’re MI5, MI6 and GCHQ – the UK’s Intelligence Services. We keep the UK and its people, businesses and interests safe from a range of threats in the real world and online. To do that effectively, we need a workforce that draws on  the potential of everyone in the UK.

A career with the Intelligence Services may not be something you’ve ever thought of. Or if you have, perhaps you discounted the idea – we know there are a lot of misconceptions out there. The truth is we recruit people from all kinds of backgrounds, and you don’t need to have been to university to join us. As for a work/ life balance? We’ll work with you to achieve what’s right for you.

The people who work for us are quite ordinary. What isn’t ordinary is the unique impact of the work we get to do. We need a wide variety of different skills and abilities, which is why we recruit such a diverse range of people. You can do mission-critical work in lots of different areas, from Intelligence Officers to Project Management, Admin Support to Software Engineering, to name a few.

Whatever you’re passionate about, we’re confident that our roles will be some of the most fascinating you’ll come across.

What’s it like to work here?
There’s lots of reasons people enjoy working with us. It’s stimulating, rewarding and truly meaningful. Protecting the UK is a shared goal that draws people together. Plus, the confidential nature of the work means you can’t help but feel part of a close and supportive community.

We have many different social groups as well as employee networks that support and represent colleagues across a range of inclusion topics, including disability and neurodivergence and caring responsibilities. These networks help raise awareness and drive positive change. For example, our disability networks have previously organised educational workshops and inspiring talks from public figures and leaders in their field, for colleagues and our senior leadership. There’s no requirement to get actively involved but it’s good knowing they’re around to help, should you ever need them.

Joining us
We’re committed to ensuring candidates with disabilities or long-term health conditions are treated equally when applying to work with us. As DWP Disability Confident Leaders, we aim to offer a person-to-person interview to any candidate who identifies as disabled and meets the essential criteria for the role. We’ve also hosted engagement sessions, upskilled recruitment staff, and improved accessibility and our management of reasonable adjustment requests. Our support goes beyond the recruitment process – we’ll work with you to ensure you have what you need once you’ve joined. And should you ever wish to move between roles, we’ve also introduced Workplace Adjustment Passports to smooth that process, too.

Coming up In the next edition, we’ll celebrate the careers of some of our colleagues (who just happen to have a disability). In the meantime, you can explore what a career with us might look like by visiting the links to our recruitment websites below. Should you decide to apply for a role, you’ll also receive a link to further information about the support we offer candidates with disabilities, long-term health conditions, or who are neurodivergent.
